100’s of New Books Now Available

By Penny B. - Last updated: Thursday, January 14, 2010

We have finally finished adding new books donated last February by the Oklahoma Department of Libraries!  We estimate the total to be over 600 new books.  Thank you ODL!  The new books cover a wide range of interests and reading levels in both fiction and non-fiction.  As the books were processed, we added the available Accelerated Reader information from the website www.renlearn.com.  This website is used by the El Reno Schools for AR testing and is available for anyone to use.  Sorry, AR tests can’t be taken using the library’s computers.

Fall Programs

By Penny B. - Last updated: Tuesday, August 25, 2009

Wednesday, September 2 is the first day in our 15-week Story Time fall session. This program is for kids under 5 and accompanied by an adult. We’ll be reading about school, community helpers, pumpkins, fire safety, and much more. Family Fun time is 9:30-9:50 a.m. Groups may sign up for a 10:00 or 10:30 a.m. session by calling Penny at 262-2409. Hurry, dates are filling fast! Click here to open a PDF of the Story Time schedule.

We are in our 10th (!) year of Book Connection. This is an after-school program for kindergarteners through 5th grade kids. We meet on Thursday afternoons from 3:30-4:30 p.m. We start with a snack (kids are always hungry!), read a little, then do an activity around a theme. Fun with SpongeBob will start us off in September followed by Saturday Movies at the Library on October 10. Have you ever worked a digital camera? We’ll show the kids some basics, let them take their own pics, then they’ll create a scrapbook to showcase them. Should be fun! Click here to open a PDF version of the Book Connection schedule.

It’s too hot outside!

By Penny B. - Last updated: Monday, July 20, 2009

It’s the middle of July and it’s been hot, hot, hot all summer long.  The Children’s Department recently received boxes and boxes of new books from the Oklahoma Department of Libraries.  We have been working to get them on the shelves and into the hands of eager readers.  We have early readers, chapter books, non-fiction and picture books.  Come inside where it’s cool and enjoy our cereal box reading room as you look over our new books.  A picture of the box creation can be seen on our Flickr page.

Summer Reading Success!

By Penny B. - Last updated: Friday, June 19, 2009

Our 2009 Summer Reading program – Be Creative @ Your Library – drew over 1,000 participants this year!

We couldn’t have done it without the help of our Teen Volunteers, our presenters who gave so generously of their time, and the parents who encouraged their children to participate.  Thanks El Reno!
